SWOLLEN LEG

A swollen leg can be caused by many different factors. Sometimes both legs are swollen due to the heart not pumping well enough. When this happens, back pressure on the venous side of the circulation causes swelling, most noticeable in the legs and feet. Sometimes, just one leg is swollen. This can be a sign of…

INNOVATION

Physician Innovator

In addition to surgery and patient care, Dr. Hill maintains a strong interest in technology and innovation. In 2005, Dr. Hill co-founded VasoNova, Inc. where he created the vision for a ground breaking catheter guidance system for placing central venous catheters. Now known as the Arrow Vascular Positioning System (VPS), the technology is FDA approved as an alternative to x-ray confirmation of catheter location. In 2011, VasoNova was acquired by Teleflex Inc. His innovation is now used worldwide to help patients start life saving chemotherapy and antibiotics without delays or the need for x-ray exposure. Dr. Hill’s other innovations range from surgical outcomes registries to determine how well surgical treatments are working to new devices and techniques for treating varicose veins. Dr. Hill’s innovative work has resulted in 19 issued U.S. patents. Dr. Hill always asks himself, “How can we do a better job?” This simple mindset keeps his work interesting and a constant challenge as he strives to improve patient care.

Here’s what Dr. Hill’s patients are saying…

I have a been a patient of Dr. Hill for eighteen years, and cannot begin to express my gratitude
for his professionalism and personal interest in my care.
In the year 2000,I was diagnosed with a blood clot disorder in my right leg…  I am now coaching baseball coach at Santa Rosa Junior College at seventy seven years of age. I will always be grateful to him for giving me that opportunity. He gave me a new and functional life that surpassed anything that I ever imagined. His compassionate and detailed approach to every patient is more than admirable.
I remain eternally grateful.

[Dr. Hill] is not only very professional and current in medical knowledge but also one of the most caring doctors that I have experience in my many (77) years. [His] knowledge is very comforting and reassuring…The fact that [Dr. Hill] was recommended by doctors at Stanford Medical Hospital is commendable to say the least. Doctors do not recommend other doctors unless they are quite comfortable with the recommendation.

[Dr. Hill] not only performed the procedure remarkably, but also included the ‘beside manner’ explaining the procedure and what to expect. Most often Doctors don’t give you the ‘one on one’ time or explanations for the procedure, which is the most important thing a person who is waiting needs to hear…[He] is a very remarkable Doctor.

I would like to thank [Dr. Hill] from the bottom of my heart for all the care and genuine concern [he] gave…[He is] a very caring person— we don’t see that in all doctors.

[Dr. Hill’s] professional knowledge and skill; sincere patient concern and care, during surgery and recovery, were superb and are worthy of special recognition… Dr. Hill’s outstanding dedication and performance honor the medical profession…

It has been quite a few years that I had the surgery. [Dr. Hill] gave me new life and I as well as my whole family appreciate everything [he] did.
